Weydert becomes 2nd in European Equipped Powerlifting Championship

Emma Weydert is Europe’s -57 kg junior vice-champion

3 medals, 5 national records and a total of 395 kg: PWFL athlete Emma Weydert has made waves at the currently ongoing European Equipped Powerlifting Championships in Pilsen (Czech Republic), leaving her mark as an international athlete and letting Europe know that the Luxembourgish delegation is here to win medals.

After a secure start in the squat and initially ranked 5th on the starting list, the athlete managed to make up ground with an 85 kg bench press. But it’s the deadlift that secured her second place overall, with 167,5 kg on the bar – just 2,5 kg below the winner of the category, Norway’s Karita Seldal Osterhus.

This shows that a competition isn’t over until the final attempt has been made, with Weydert soaring past bronze medalist Alexandra Cazacu from Romania, who started with a strong 165 squat and earned a total of 390 (67,5 in the bench and 157,5 in the deadlift).

Under the guidance of national trainer Alain Hammang and coach Tiziano Gasparro, the Luxembourgish athlete won second place in the overall ranking as well as a silver medal in the deadlift and a bronze medal in the bench. Her attempts, from the 142,5 squat to the 395 total, are new national records as well.

All eyes are now on Ankie Timmers in the -84 kg Open category on Wednesday, 10 a.m. The competition is currently streamed on https://www.youtube.com/@europeanpowerlifting.
